Mike Wallace 41 1 (1530) [ Translation ] The Clerk of the Committee (Mr. Jean-François Pagé) : Honourable members of the committee, [ English ] I see a quorum. We can now proceed to the election of the chair. [ Translation ] Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair of the committee must be a member of the government party. [ English ] I am ready to receive motions for chair. Madame Boivin. [ Translation ] Ms. Françoise Boivin (Gatineau, NDP) : Thank you. I want to welcome everyone, especially the new members of the committee, as we enter 2013. I would like to nominate my colleague, Mike Wallace.

The Clerk : Are there any further motions? [ English ] Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion? (Motion agreed to) The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Wallace duly elected chair of the committee. Some hon. members: Hear, hear! [ Translation ] The Chair (Mr. Mike Wallace (Burlington, CPC)) : Thank you, Ms. Boivin. [ English ] We're going to do this relatively quickly. I appreciate that you guys didn't meet last week while I was away. That was nice. On Wednesday we have the potential for the minister to come before us for the first hour to start the discussion on Bill S-9 .

The second hour would be for the officials. I need unanimous consent for that to happen. After that, we will adjourn this meeting and then begin the meeting of the subcommittee on agenda and procedure. Could I have a motion for unanimous consent for that? Ms. Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay (Delta—Richmond East, CPC) : I so move that we start consideration of Bill S-9 on Wednesday, with the Minister of Justice coming for the first hour and the officials for the second hour. The Chair : Are there any questions or comments?

Are we all in agreement? (Motion agreed to) The Chair : That's carried, so I will conclude this meeting. Those who are not on the subcommittee on agenda and procedure can leave. Ms. Kerry-Lynne D. Findlay : Replacing Mr. Goguen on that subcommittee just for today is Dan Albas. The Chair : Okay. This meeting is adjourned. Thank you very much.
