PARTIE PUBLIQUE SEULEMENT (1730) [ English ] The Chair (Mr. Garry Breitkreuz (Yorkton—Melville, CPC)) : Order, please. Mr. Dosanjh, please read your motion. Hon.

Ujjal Dosanjh (Vancouver South, Lib.) : That RCMP officials Bob Paulson, Chief Superintendent and Acting Assistant Commissioner, National Security Criminal Investigation, [Paulson] and Raf Souccar, Assistant Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Federal Policing, [Souccar] who appeared before the Committee on June 10, 2008, as well as Sergeant Sylvie Tremblay of the RCMP, be invited to appear on Wednesday, June to explain why Paulson and Souccar refused to reveal to the Standing Committee on Public Safety and National Security the fact that they did not advise the Privy Council Office of security concerns in relation to Mme.

Julie Couillard. The Chair : Thank you, Mr. Dosanjh. (Motion agreed to on division) The Chair : What do you want to talk about? Hon. Roy Cullen (Etobicoke North, Lib.) : For the future business meeting, I'd like some real precision about what powers the committee has in terms of compelling witnesses and what powers the House has with respect to compelling witnesses. The Chair : Can I ask the clerk to prepare something for this? Hon. Roy Cullen : Yes, please. Thank you. I mean MPs, ministers, prime ministers, and citizens. The Chair : It's a matter of going to Marleau and Montpetit.

For Wednesday the clerk can prepare maybe a brief

summary of what powers the committee has to compel witnesses to come. Hon. Roy Cullen : It should be for the House as well. The Chair : Okay. For Wednesday we're going to talk about future business of the committee. Hopefully this RCMP discussion won't last for the whole two hours. The meeting is adjourned.
