PARTIE PUBLIQUE SEULEMENT (1605) [ English ] The Chair (Mr. James Bezan (Selkirk—Interlake, CPC)) : I'll call us to order. Mr. Miller, would you move your motion onto the floor and read it into the record? It's been circulated. Mr. Larry Miller (Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound, CPC) : Mr. Chairman, thank you.
I'd like to move the following: That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food request that the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food conduct a full review of all inspection fees charged by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and; that this information be used by the Minister to investigate possible options for the government to deal with the inequity between what Canadian Livestock Producers and Packing Plants pay for inspection fees as compared to their counterparts in the United States. The Chair : Everybody has a copy. Is there any discussion? Hon. Geoff Regan (Halifax West, Lib.) : Mr.
Chairman, we are in agreement with the motion in general, although I would like to move an amendment. I move that the motion be amended in the third line by inserting, after the word “be”, the words “shared with the standing committee on agriculture and”. [ Translation ] I think that, in French, at the end of the third line, after the word "Ministre," the words “partage cette information avec le Comité permanent de l'agriculture et l'” have to be inserted. [ English ] Oh, forget the “ l' ”; you don't need it. The Chair : We have an amendment on the floor from Mr. Regan. Go ahead, Mr. Miller. Mr.
Larry Miller : Geoff, are you basically trying to make sure that the committee sees it? Hon. Geoff Regan : Yes, I want to make sure the information is shared with the committee. Mr. Larry Miller : Okay. I would have presumed that. Could you go over the exact wording? Hon. Geoff Regan : Sure.
I'll read it to you, as follows: That the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food request that the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food conduct a full review of all inspection fees charged by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency and; that this information be shared with the Committee and used by the Minister to investigate possible options for the government to deal with the inequity between what Canadian Livestock Producers and Packing Plants pay for inspection fees as compared to their counterparts in the United States. Mr. Larry Miller : I will accept that as a friendly amendment.
The Chair : That makes it easy. It's a friendly amendment. Are there any other comments or discussion? (Motion as amended agreed to) The Chair : We have no other business on the table. I'll take the motion to adjourn. So moved by Mr. Lauzon. Meeting adjourned.
