The clerk cannot receive other types of motions, and cannot entertain points of order or participate in debate. We can now proceed with the election of the chair. Pursuant to Standing Order 106(2), the chair must be a member of the government party. I am ready to receive motions for the election of the chair. Go ahead, Ms. Chow. Ms. Olivia Chow (Trinity—Spadina, NDP) : I nominate Mr. Miller. The Clerk : It has been moved by Ms.

Chow that Mr. Miller be elected as chair of the committee. Are there any further motions? I see none. Is it the pleasure of the committee to adopt the motion? Larry Miller (Bruce—Grey—Owen Sound, CPC)) : Thank you very much. It is going to be a pleasure to work with all of you. I am very excited to be on this committee. I think you will find me very fair to all sides, but I will be strict when I have to be. Anyway, I would suggest, and I open it up to direction from the committee, that our first order of business should be to have a steering committee. If that's okay, the clerk will send out a notice for that for next Tuesday. We'll go from there, unless I hear from you. Is there any other business for today? Some hon. members: No.

The Chair: There is one item that I am going to bring up. I've been discussing with some of you that because of the change of time for this meeting—I think earlier you met at 8:45—and because of the QP practice, which affects all parties, it's going to be my practice to try to end the meetings at about 12:45.
