Merv Tweed 40 3 (1105) [ English ] The Clerk of the Committee (Ms. Bonnie Charron) : Honourable members of the committee, I see a quorum. We can now proceed to the election of the chair. I am ready to receive motions to that effect. Mr. Sukh Dhaliwal (Newton—North Delta, Lib.) : I nominate Mr. Tweed. The Clerk : It has been proposed by Mr. Dhaliwal that Merv Tweed be elected chair. Is that agreed? (Motion agreed to) The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. Tweed elected chair of the committee. Before inviting him to take the chair, I will now proceed to the election of the vice-chair.

Are there motions? [ Translation ] Mr. Michel Guimond (Montmorency—Charlevoix—Haute-Côte-Nord, BQ) : I move that Mr. McCallum be elected. The Clerk : Mr. Guimond nominates Mr. McCallum. Is it agreed? [ English ] (Motion agreed to) The Clerk: I declare the motion carried and Mr. McCallum first vice-chair of the committee. [ Translation ] So we can now move to the election of the second vice-chair. Are there any nominations? Mr. Gaudet. Mr. Roger Gaudet (Montcalm, BQ) : I nominate Mr. Guimond. The Clerk : Mr. Gaudet nominates Mr. Guimond. Is it agreed? (Motion agreed to) The Clerk: I declare Mr.

Guimond duly elected second vice-chair of the committee. I now invite Mr. Tweed to take the chair. [ English ] The Chair (Mr. Merv Tweed (Brandon—Souris, CPC)) : Thank you, everyone. I've just been advised that the usual process is that now we adjourn this meeting and call a subcommittee meeting to discuss and plan for future business, if everybody is in agreement. Mr. Jean. Mr. Brian Jean (Fort McMurray—Athabasca, CPC) : What about the issue of routine motions, Mr. Chair; do we deal with that now? The Chair : They continue unrevised, unless there are any changes to be made.

With that, what I'm going to do now is adjourn the meeting and thank everyone for their kind support again. We have to call a subcommittee to do the planning of future business. I don't know what anybody's time

schedule is like today, whether we want to continue today or call it for Thursday. Mr. Jean, do you have a comment? Mr. Brian Jean : I'm available at the committee's discretion. The Chair : John, do we want to go right to a subcommittee after this? Hon. John McCallum (Markham—Unionville, Lib.) : I would suggest that, if people are available, we go right to the subcommittee. The Chair : Mr. Guimond? [ Translation ] Mr. Michel Guimond : I wanted to propose the same thing. The subcommittee could perhaps meet right away or Thursday. I myself am not available for the rest of the day. [ English ] The Chair : Okay.

Then I will adjourn this committee and will call the subcommittee for 15 minutes from now. We have to do some transferring on other things. So the subcommittee will meet right here in 15 minutes. Thank you. The meeting is adjourned.
