THE COMMITTEE OF SELECTION
MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
OTTAWA, Monday, May 9, 2022

Pursuant to the order of the Senate of May 5, 2022, the Committee of Selection met this day in room C128, Senate of Canada Building, and with videoconference, at 8:30 a.m. ET, the chair, the Honourable Michael L. MacDonald, presiding.
Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Dean, Downe, Duncan, LaBoucane-Benson, MacDonald, Petitclerc and Saint-Germain (8).
Participating in the meeting: Maxime Fortin and Joëlle Nadeau, principal clerks, Brigitte Martineau and Tracy Amendola, administrative assistants, Committees Directorate.
Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, November 25, 2021, the committee continued its study on issues relating to the scheduling of committee meetings, the coordination, facilitation and enhancement of hybrid meetings, and the duration of membership on committees.
The chair reported to the committee that, pursuant to the decision taken at the December 1, 2021 meeting of the committee, the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure approved a request from the Honourable Senator Audette to move her office suite from 131, East Block to the office suite in 214, East Block, due to the previous office’s close proximity to the East Block Construction.
The Honourable Senator Saint-Germain informed the committee that she is stepping down as deputy chair of the committee.
The Honourable Senator Saint-Germain moved that the Honourable Senator Petitclerc be deputy chair of the committee.
The question being put on the motion, it was adopted.
The chair advised the committee that with the retirment of the Honourable Senator Mercer, the Honourable Senator Bellemare will replace him as the representative from the Progressive Senators Group on the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure.
At 8:35 a.m., the committee suspended.
At 8:36 a.m., pursuant to rule12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).
It was agreed that members report back to the Subcommittee on Agenda and Procedure by tomorrow afternoon on their prefered scheduling options for committee meetings.
At 9:04 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
