MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

The Standing Senate Committee on Social Affairs, Science and Technology met this day at 11:31 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the deputy chair, the Honourable Jane Cordy, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Bellemare, Burey, Cordy, Dasko, McPhedran, Mégie, Moodie, Osler, Petitclerc and Seidman (10).

Participating in the meeting: Antoine Dedewanou, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, the committee continued its study of Bill S-244,

An Act to amend the Department of Employment and Social Development Act and the Employment Insurance Act (Employment Insurance Council).

WITNESSES:

Canadian Chamber of Commerce:

Diana Palmerin-Velasco, Senior Director, Future of Work.

Canadian Federation of Independent Business:

Jasmin Guénette, Vice-President, National Affairs;

Christina Santini, Director, National Affairs.

Employment and Social Development Canada:

Mona Nandy, Director General, Employment Insurance Policy, Skills and Employment Branch;

Steven Coté, Executive Director, Employment Insurance Modernization Policy and Planning, Skills and Employment Branch;

Angelina Barrados, Executive Director, Employment Insurance Horizontal Policy Coordination, Skills and Employment Branch.

Diana Palmerin-Velasco and Jasmin Guénette each made a statement and, together with Christina Santini, answered questions.

At 12:17 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 12:20 p.m., the committee resumed.

Mona Nandy made a statement and, together with Steven Coté, answered questions.

At 1:06 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
