Senate Committees

November 18, 2024 To Whom it May Concern: I understand the senate is doing a study of the CBC. I want to express why I value the CBC and while I believe the Canadian Government should continue to invest in it (probably more than it is currently doing): • CBC programming shaped me in many positive ways as a child; public programming for children keeps children's best interests at heart (rather than those of advertisers) • CBC news programming continues to provide relatively unbiased news reporting in what is become a "post-truth" world.

The more artificial intelligence continues to expand its capabilties, the more we will need institutions like the CBC to offer trustworthy programming that isn't biased by entrenched power players such as governments and corporations. • The same goes for the investigative journalism and documentary filmmaking produced by the CBC— citizens need funding and platforms for those who are working hard (and sometimes risking their lives) to reveal the truth.

This is fundamental to a functioning democracy • Art is a powerful lever for positive change and the CBC has supported many wonderful creators over the years Thank you. -- Oona Eager Victoria, British Columbia
