OTTAWA, Tuesday, November 15, 2022

The Standing Senate Committee on National Finance met with videoconference this day at 9:02 a.m. [ET] for clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-31,

An Act respecting cost of living relief measures related to dental care and rental housing.

Senator Percy Mockler ( Chair ) in the chair.

[ English ]

The Chair: I wish to welcome the senators as well as the viewers across the country watching us on sencanada.ca.

[ Translation ]

My name is Percy Mockler. I am a senator from New Brunswick and Chair of the Standing Senate Committee on National Finance.

I would now like to ask my colleagues to introduce themselves, starting on the left.

Senator Gignac: Senator Gignac, Quebec.

Senator Gagné: Senator Raymonde Gagné, Manitoba.

[ English ]

Senator Boehm: Peter Boehm, Ontario.

Senator Omidvar: Ratna Omidvar, Ontario.

Senator Loffreda: Tony Loffreda, Quebec.

Senator Duncan: Pat Duncan, Yukon.

Senator Harder: Peter Harder, Ontario.

Senator Pate: Kim Pate from the unceded, unsurrendered territory of the Algonquin Anishinaabe.

Senator Smith: Larry Smith, Quebec.

Senator Marshall: Elizabeth Marshall, Newfoundland and Labrador.

Honourable senators, is it agreed that the committee proceed to clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-31,

short title, carry?

Honourable senators, is it agreed that the Law Clerk and Parliamentary Counsel be authorized to make necessary technical, grammatical or other required non-substantive changes as a result of the amendments adopted by the committee, including updating cross-references and renumbering of provisions?

Hon. Senators: Agreed.

The Chair: Thank you.

Honourable senators, are there any other comments as observations on Bill C-31? I see none. Therefore, honourable senators, is it agreed that I report this bill to the Senate as soon as possible? Thank you, honourable senators.

Honourable senators, this concludes our clause-by-clause consideration of Bill C-31. If there are no comments around the table, I will now proceed to the adjournment of the meeting. I see that there are no comments.

Before I adjourn the meeting, I want to thank each and every one of you for your work and dedication. And also to the clerk and the staff, thank you for your hard work. This, honourable senators, reminds us of the common denominator that we have when we look at bills in the National Finance Committee. It’s all about transparency, accountability, predictability and reliability.

I want to take this opportunity as chair of the committee to say thank you to all the senators who participated diligently and with a lot of interest on the Finance Committee of the Senate. On this, I will now declare the meeting adjourned, honourable senators.
