Pursuant to the order of the Senate of May 5, 2022, the Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, and with videoconference, at 6:32 p.m. ET, the deputy chair, the Honourable Julie Miville-Dechêne, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Clement, Cormier, Gerba, Manning, Miville-Dechêne, Quinn and Simons (7).

Members of the committee present by videoconference: The Honourable Senators Busson and Dawson (2).

Participating in the meeting: Martine Willox, Legislative Clerk and Brigitte Martineau, Administrative Assistant, Committees Directorate; Khamla Heminthavong and Jed Chong, analysts, Library of Parliament; Stav Nitka, Communications Officer, Communications Directorate.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, April 28, 2022, the committee began its examination of the subject matter of those elements contained in

Part 10 of Bill S-6,

An Act respecting regulatory modernization.

WITNESSES (by videoconference):

Transport Canada:

Christopher Hynes, Director, Connected Vehicle/Automated Vehicle Regulatory Policy;

Melanie Vanstone, Director General, Multimodal and Road Safety Programs.

Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat:

James van Raalte, Executive Director, Regulatory Policy and Cooperation Directorate.

James van Raalte and Melanie Vanstone each made a statement and, together with Christopher Hynes, answered questions.

At 7:34 p.m., the committee suspended.

At 7:35 p.m., pursuant to rule 12-16(1)(d), the committee resumed in camera to consider a draft report.

At 8:14 p.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
