THE STANDING SENATE COMMITTEE ON TRANSPORT AND COMMUNICATIONS

MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

The Standing Senate Committee on Transport and Communications met this day at 9:03 a.m., in room B45, Senate of Canada Building, the chair, the Honourable Leo Housakos, presiding.

Members of the committee present: The Honourable Senators Cardozo, Cuzner, Dasko, Gignac, Housakos, Miville-Dechêne, Quinn and Simons (8).

Other senators present: The Honourable Senators Downe, Robinson and Youance (3).

Participating in the meeting: Khamla Heminthavong, Analyst, Library of Parliament.

Pursuant to the order of reference adopted by the Senate on Thursday, February 10, 2022, the committee continued its study on matters relating to transport and communications generally. (Topic: Local services provided by CBC/Radio-Canada)

WITNESSES:

The Honourable Senator Percy E. Downe.

Acadia Broadcasting Corporation:

Chris Pearson, President (by videoconference) .

As an individual:

Terry Seguin, former CBC senior broadcast journalist (by videoconference) .

Chris Pearson and Terry Seguin each made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:06 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:10 a.m., the committee resumed.

The Honourable Senator Downe made a statement and answered questions.

At 10:44 a.m., the committee suspended.

At 10:45 a.m., pursuant to rule 12‑16(1)d), the committee resumed in camera to discuss a draft agenda (future business).

At 11:02 a.m., the committee adjourned to the call of the chair.
