summary is available.<br/>On June 2010, the Minister of citizenship, immigration and multiculturalism introduced Bill C-37, the Strengthening the Value of Canadian Citizenship Act, in the House of Commons and it was given first reading.<br/>The bill amends the Citizenship Act.

Among other things it:<br/>• Amends certain conditions relating to the granting of and eligibility for citizenship in certain cases:<br/>-death of a parent who had not yet been granted citizenship.<br/>–grandchildren of Canadians who have served abroad in or with the Canadian armed forces or the federal public administration and other related exemptions.<br/>–citizenship may not be acquired after the first generation either by descent or in the case of adoption.<br/>-applicants for citizenship must be present in Canada for a specified period.<br/><br/>• Provides for new processes respecting the revocation of citizenship in the case of false representation or fraud and declarations of inadmissibility leading to the deportation of the person whose citizenship is revoked.<br/>• Provides for the regulation of third-party involvement in the citizenship process.<br/>• Expands the prohibitions with respect to grants of citizenship with respect to foreign offences and sentences served outside Canada.</div> House of Commons — First reading: Completed (2010-06-10) House of Commons — Second reading: No activity LEGISinfo: https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/40-3/c-37
