An Act to amend the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and to make related amendments to other Acts (Protection of Communities from the Evolving Dangerous Drug Trade Act), in the House of Commons and it was given first reading. <br/><br/>Bill C-70 amends the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act to, among other things, provide the Minister of Health with the authority to temporarily add potentially dangerous substances to a

schedule to that Act in order to control them;<br/><br/>• expand the offence of possession, production, sale or importation so that it includes transport and applies to anything (including precursors) that is intended to be used in the production or trafficking of any controlled substance;<br/>• streamline the disposition of seized, found or otherwise acquired controlled substances, precursors and chemical and non-chemical offence-related property;<br/>• add an administrative monetary penalties scheme;<br/>• modernize inspection powers;<br/>• provide the Minister of Health with the authority to require a person who is authorized to conduct activities in relation to controlled substances or precursors to provide him or her with information respecting those activities; and<br/>• expand the regulation-making authority respecting information so that it applies to the collection, use, retention, disclosure and disposal of information.<br/><br/>It also makes related amendments to the Criminal Code and the Seized Property Management Act.</div> House of Commons — First reading: Completed (2015-06-11) House of Commons — Second reading: No activity LEGISinfo: https://www.parl.ca/legisinfo/en/bill/41-2/c-70
