Order in Council 1988/2016

On the recommendation of the undersigned, the Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, by and with the advice and concurrence of the Executive Council of Ontario, orders that:

whereas pursuant to Order in Council numbered O.C. 1986/2016, dated December 14, 2016, Howard Sapers was appointed as the Independent Special Advisor to the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services on Corrections Reform (“Independent Special Advisor”) to conduct an independent review of the use of segregation in adult correctional institutions and to provide independent expert advice to identify reforms to correctional services and to develop a specific plan for implementation;

therefore pursuant to the prerogative of Her Majesty The Queen in Right of Ontario to provide for the remuneration of persons who serve Her Majesty’s Government of Ontario in the discharge of its executive obligations and responsibilities, the following remuneration is determined:

Howard Sapers shall be paid an annual remuneration of $330,000.00 for acting as the Independent Special Advisor.

Howard Sapers shall be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out the duties of the Independent Special Advisor in accordance with the Management Board of Cabinet Travel, Meal, and Hospitality Expenses Directive.

and that Order in Council numbered O.C.1687/2016, dated November 7, 2016, is hereby revoked effective the date of this Order in Council.
