1 These regulations may be cited as the Firefighters’ Compensation Regulations .

Prescribed diseases and minimum periods

2 The diseases and corresponding minimum periods of employment or volunteer work set

out in the following table are prescribed for the purposes of subsections 35A(2) and

(3) of the Workers’ Compensation Act :

emergency response scene in the worker’s

capacity as a firefighter

Volunteer firefighters

3 A firefighter who is or has been a member of a volunteer fire department is deemed to

meet a minimum period of volunteer work prescribed by

Section 2 if the firefighter

(

a) participated in at least 20% of all activities of the volunteer fire department

each year, including fire calls and training, conducted during the minimum

period; and

(

b) has written confirmation of active member status for the minimum period in

a form approved by the Workers’ Compensation Board and signed by the

Chief or Deputy Chief of the volunteer fire department for which the

firefighter worked.
