Bill 30 BILL 30 1980 THE HOSPITAL DEBT RETIREMENT ACT (Assented to , 1980) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1 In this Act, (a) “hospital debenture” means a debenture the repayment of which is provided for in accordance with

section 55 of The Alberta Hospitals Act and that is certified by the Minister of Hospitals and Medical Care as eligible for retirement under this Act; (b) “nursing home debenture” means a debenture or other form of debt the repayment of which is being or may be supported by a grant made under

section 6.1 of The Nursing Homes Act and that is certified by the Minister of Hospitals and Medical Care as eligible for retirement under this Act. 2 The Minister of Hospitals and Medical Care may by order certify that a hospital debenture or nursing home debenture is eligible for retirement under this Act. 3 From and out of the General Revenue Fund there may be paid and applied a sum not exceeding, in the whole, $340 000 000 during the period April 1, 1980 to March 31, 1981 for the purposes of (

a) providing for the full repayment of outstanding princi pal and payment of accrued interest on hospital debentures and nursing home debentures issued prior to March 31, 1980, and (

b) providing for regularly scheduled payments of principal and interest on hospital debentures and nursing home de bentures until such time as full repayment of the outstand ing principal and payment of accrued interest on those debentures can be effected. 1

Explanatory Notes 1

Definitions. 2 Certification by Minister of Hospitals and Medical Care of debenture. 3 Appropriation for retirement of debentures. 1

4 Subject to the approval of Treasury Board, payment of an amount to the Alberta Municipal Financing Corporation for the purposes described in

section 3(

a) and (

b) may be made in part by way of cancellation by the Provincial Treasurer of (

a) debentures that were issued by the Alberta Municipal Financing Corporation in favour of the Provincial Treasurer and that are, at the time of cancellation, held as an asset of the General Revenue Fund, and (

b) accrued interest on those debentures incurred up to the date of cancellation. 5 The due application of all money expended and other forms of payment made under this Act shall be accounted for. 6 This Act comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to. 2
