The FiTe PTevention Act is heTeby amended. 2.

Section is amended (

a) as to subsection (1) (

i) by striking out the words "'fire insurance busi ness" and by substituting the words "property insurance business", (ii) by striking out the word "during" and by sub stituting the word "for", (

b) by adding the following subsection afteT subsection (3) :

(4) In this

section "property insurance" means the following kinds of insurance within the meaning of The Alberta Insurance Act: (

a) fire insurance, (

b) extended perils insurance under

section of that Act, (

c) property damage insurance, (

d) inland transportation insurance, (

e) theft insurance, (

f) weather insurance, (

g) plate glass insurance, (

h) livestock insurance, (

i) explosion insurance, and (

j) forgery insurance. 3. This Act comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to. Explanatory Notes I. This Bill will 'am end

chapter of the Revised Statutes of Alberta 1970. 2. This amendment reflects a change in the manner in which insurance companies now report to the SupeTintendent.

Section presently reads: 27.

(1) For the purpose oQf maintaining the office ,of the fire commis sio'ner and paying the expenses incidental thereto, every company, whether upon the stock OT mutual plan, and the attorney of every reciprocal oQr inter-insurance exchange, transacting the business of fire insurance within the meaning of The Alberta Insurance Act, shall, in addition to taxes and fees required by 1a w to be paid, pay toO the Pro vincial Treasurer in the month of March in each year a sum equal to one-third of one per cent of its premium receipts and asses;sments, excluding return premiums and cancelIati'ons calculated Qn its fire in surance business in Alberta as reported to the Superintendent of InSUT ance during the preceding calendar year.

(2) T'he tax imposed under this

section is not payable by a reinsurer in respect of reinsurance premiums paid lor accredited ,toO it by an insurer.

(3) A tax of lone-third of one per cent Qf the premium for the insur ance effected shall be collected fmm persons insuring with unlicensed companies. Title: 1973 (17th, 2nd) Bill 29, The Fire Prevention Amendment Act, 1973
