Explanatory Note I. This Bill will amend The Frozen Food Act, which is

chapter 122 of the Revised Statutes.

Section 2, clauses (

b) and (hI) read: (b) "carryon a frozen food locker plant business" mea.ns carryon the same as a separate business or in conjunction with or as part of any other business or businesses; (hI) "specialized processing plant" means a business that slaughters or ohtains slaughtered animals and processes the carcasses for the use of owners of honle freezers; Clause (

b) is no longer required because of the revision of

section 3.

Section 3 presently reads: 3. From and after the twenty-second day of June, 1944, (

a) no person shall in Alberta carry Qn the business of an animal food storage pilant, a frozen f.ood locker plant or a specialized processing plant unless the person is the holder Qf a subsisting licence issued pursuant to this Act, authorizing that person to carry on such business, and (

b) no person who is the holder of a licence shall carryon such business at any place not specified in the licence.

An Act to amend The Frozen Food Act (Assented to , 1965) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. The Frozen Food Act is hereby amended.

Section 2 is a,mended (

a) by striking out clause (b), (

b) by striking out clause (hl) and by substituting the following: (hl) "specialized processing plant" means a busi ness (

i) that slaughters animals and processes the carcasses for the us,e of 'Owners of home freezers, or (ii) that obtains slaughtered animals and pro cesses the carcasses for the use of owners of home freezers;

Section 3 is struck out and the following is suibstiliJuted: 3.

(1) No person shall operate (

a) an ,animal food storage plant, or (

b) a frozen food locker plant, or (

c) subject to subsection (2), a specialized processing plant unless he holds a licence in respect of that plant is,sued pur suant to this Act.

(2) A person who operates a specialized processing plant that comes only within the description in subcluase (ii) of clause (hl) of

section 2 does not require a licence in respect of that plant unless, in the opinion of the Minister, the oper ation of the plant constitutes a major portion of the business of the person,

(3) No person who holds a licence shall op,erate the plant in respect of which the licence was issued at any place not specified in the licence.

2 4. The Lieutenant Governor in Council is authorized to make regulations respecting insurance. 5. Commencement of Act.

Section 12 is amended by adding the following clause after cIa use (k): (kl) the insurance to be obtained by the holders of licences, including the amount and the extent of the coverage required, 5. This Act comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to. 2
