Volunteer War Service Medal Regulations

Under the authority of

section 7 of the Volunteer War Service Medal Act, 1993

and the Subordinate Legislation Revision and Consolidation Act

, the Lieutenant-Governor in Council makes the following regulations.

These regulations may be cited as the Volunteer War Service Medal Regulations.

Definition

In these regulations "Act" means the Volunteer War Service Medal Act, 1993.

Application for medal

A veteran or relative of a veteran who wishes to apply for a medal under the Act shall complete an application in the form prescribed by the minister and send the application form together with any statutory declarations that are required under

section 4 or 5 to the Department of Veterans Affairs (Canada) for confirmation that the details on the application form are correct.

Application by relative

Where the person applying for a medal is not a veteran but is a relative of a veteran, the person applying shall complete a statutory declaration as prescribed by the minister.

No overseas duty

Where a veteran did not participate in overseas duty, the person applying for a medal shall complete a statutory declaration as prescribed by the minister.

Medal for deceased veteran

Where a veteran who would be eligible to receive a medal under the Act was killed during the Second World War or has died since the end of that War, a medal may be awarded to a relative of that veteran according to the following order of priority:

(

a) surviving spouse;

(

b) eldest surviving child;

(

c) eldest surviving parent; and

(

d) eldest surviving brother or sister.

Repeal

The Volunteer War Service Medal Regulations, 1981, Newfoundland Regulation 204/81, are repealed.
