EXPLANATORY NOTE NOTE EXPLICATIVE This Bill proclaims January 28, 2016, as the Centen nial of Manitoba Women's Right to Vote. Le présent projet de loi a pour objet d'établir le « Jour du centenaire de l'obtention du droit de vote par les Manitobaines », qui serait observé le 28 janvier 2016.

LOI SUR LE CENTENAIRE DE L'OBTENTION DU DROIT DE VOTE PAR LES MANITOBAINES (Assented to ) (Date de sanction : )

WHEREAS on January 28, 1916, Manitoba women were granted the right to vote in provincial elections; AND

WHEREAS Manitoba was the first Canadian province to give women the right to vote; AND

WHEREAS Nellie McClung was instrumental in helping women get the right to vote in Manitoba and has been honoured with a monument on the grounds of the Manitoba Legislature; AND

WHEREAS January 28, 2016, is the 100th anniversary of the day when Manitoba women were granted the right to vote in provincial elections and it is a day to honour and celebrate the passion, inspirat ion, and fierce determination of Nellie McClung and the other women who were champions of equality; AND

WHEREAS this special day is a reminder to Manitobans to value and appreciate this significant and hard-won right; Attendu : que, le 28 janvier 1916, les Manitobaines ont reçu le droit de vote aux élections provinciales; que le Manitoba a été la première province canadienne à donner aux femmes le droit de vote; que Nellie McClung a joué un rôle crucial pour aider les femmes à obtenir le droit de vote au Manitoba et qu'un monument lui rendant hommage a été érigé sur les terrains du Palais législatif; que le 28 janvier 2016 constitue le centième anniversaire du jour où les Manitobaines ont reçu le droit de vote aux élections provinciales et que c'est l'occasion de rendre hommage à la passion, à l'inspiration et à la détermination farouche de Nellie McClung et des autres femmes qui se sont portées à la défense de l'égalité, ainsi que de les célébrer; que cette journée spéciale rappelle aux habitants du Manitoba combien il est important de chérir ce droit durement gagné, 1

THEREFORE HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba, enacts as follows: SA MAJESTÉ, sur l'avis et avec le consentement de l'Assemblée législative du Manitoba, édicte : Centennial of Manitoba Women's Right to Vote 1 January 28, 2016, is to be known as the Centennial of Manitoba Women's Right to Vote. Jour du centenaire de l'obtention du droit de vote par les Manitobaines 1 Le 28 janvier 2016 est désigné « Jour du centenaire de l'obtention du droit de vote par les Manitobaines ». Coming into force 2 This Act comes into force on the day it receives royal assent.
