Lipedema Awareness Day

WHEREAS: Lipedema is a chronic progressive medical condition that is

characterized by the abnormal distribution of fatty tissue in the legs, hips, and

sometimes the arms, which is out of proportion with the rest of the body. It may cause

pain, tenderness, swelling, and easy bruising;

AND

WHEREAS: The causes of lipedema are not well understood. It is reported to

start or worsen during puberty and other periods of hormonal changes, such as

pregnancy, and menopause;

AND

WHEREAS: Despite affecting approximately 1 in 9 women, lipedema remains

significantly underrecognized and underdiagnosed, often resulting in delayed

diagnosis, inadequate care, and substantial physical, psychological, and financial

burden for those affected;

AND

WHEREAS: The Government of Alberta commends Lipedema Canada and

other organizations dedicated to lipedema advocacy and awareness to advance

recognition and support for individuals affected by the condition.

THEREFORE: I, Adriana LaGrange, Minister of Primary and Preventative Health

WHEREAS: A cavernous malformation is a benign lesion made of clusters of tightly

packed, abnormally small blood vessels in the brain or spinal cord that are thin-walled

and leaky;

AND

WHEREAS: Individuals with cavernous malformation may experience

seizures, headaches, limb weakness, hemorrhagic stroke, and issues with memory,

balance, vision, and speech, and treatment options are limited;

AND

WHEREAS: Approximately 20 per cent of affected individuals have an

inherited form of cavernous malformation;

AND

WHEREAS: The Government of Alberta commends Cavernous Malformation

Canada for their advocacy to raise awareness, support affected individuals and their

families and promote research into cavernous malformation.
