EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Bill would amend the Occupational Therapists Act, 2005 to

give the board, subject to the

approval of the minister, regulation-making powers respecting the issuance of

different types of licences for the practice of occupational therapy; and

remove provisions requiring referrals to an occupational therapist from

legally qualified medical practitioners or others identified in regulation.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and

House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

1. (1) Subsection 30(1) of the Occupational Therapists Act, 2005 is

amended by adding immediately after paragraph (

b) the following:

(b.1) providing for the issuance of different

classes of licences;

(2) Paragraph 30(1 )(

e) of

the Act is repealed.

2. Subsection 32(2) of the Act is repealed.
