OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations dated March 17, 2008, and pursuant to

Section 3 of

Chapter 300 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Municipal Elections Act, and pursuant to

Section 8 of

Chapter 235 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the

Interpretation Act, is pleased to: (

a) appoint Vi Carmichael of Dartmouth, Halifax Regional Municipality, as Municipal Elections Officer commencing March 31, 2008; (

b) order that the remuneration and other terms of her employment shall be determined in the discretion of the Minister of Service Nova Scotia and Municipal Relations; (

c) determine that reasonable expenses necessarily incurred by the Municipal Elections Officer in carrying out duties shall be paid to her in accordance with Provincial Government policy; (

d) bind the Municipal Elections Officer as a condition of appointment, by the principles and purposes of the corporate Code of Conduct for Civil Servants and

Chapter 4 of the Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1991, the Members and Public Employees Disclosure Act; and (

e) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate, or settle claims or charges made against the Municipal Elections Officer and indemnify her from personal liability, provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of activities in relation to her appointment and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends, the Province will be in control of the case.
