Bill 18 Mr. McCrae BILL 18 1975 THE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AMENDMENT ACT, 1975 (Assented to , 1975) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. The Social Development Act is hereby amended.

Section 11, subsection (2) is amended by striking out the word "Where" and by substitutinfj therefor thb words "Subject to the regulations, where". 3. Sect.ion 25 is struck O'ltt and the following

section is substituted therefor: 25. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make regulations (

a) prescribing the maximum amount of social allow ance that may be provided to a person in need of assistance to obtain any specific basic necessity; (

b) specifying the earnings or cash assets or the equiva lent of cash assets which may be exempt in deter mining the resources of any class of persons for the purpose of determining the amount of social allowance payable to persons within the class.

Section 29 is struck out and the following

section is substituted therefor: 29. Effective January 1, 1975 the amount of family allowance payable in each month in respect of a child who has a parent who is resident in Alberta shall be at the following rates based on the age of the child on the last day of the month: (

a) for a child who has not attained seven years of age, . $16.40; (

b) for a child who has attained seven years of age but has not attained 12 years of age, $20.80;

Explanatory Notes i. This Bill will amend

chapter 3'45 of the Revised l Sta.tutes of Alberta uno.

Section 111, subsection (2) presently reads:

(2) Where the Director considers that a person is in need of assistance he is responsible for the provision of a social allowance to or in res!)ect of that oerson in an amount that will be adequate to enable the person to obtain the basic necessities for himself and his dependants.

Section 215 presently reads: 25. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may make regulations respecting any ~r:t~ct~eemed necessary or advisable to carry out effectively the purposes of 4. This amendment will mcre-ase the rate of family allowance payable in accordance with the cost of living.

Section 29 presently reads: 29. The amount of family allowance payable in each month in respect of a child who has a parent who is resident in Alberta shall be at the following rates based on the age of the child on the last day of the month: (

a) for a child who has not attained seven years of age, $15; (

b) for a child who has attained seven years of age but has not attained 12 years of age, $19; (

c) for a child who has attained 12 years of age but has not attained 16 years of age, $25; (

d) for a child who has attained 16 years of age but has not att2.lned 18 years of age, $28.

c) for a child who has attained 12 years of age but has not attained 16 years of age, $27.30; (

d) for. a child who has attained 16 years of age but has not attained 18 years of age, $30.60. 5. This Act comes into force on the day upon which it i8 assented to. 2
