OIC Text: The Governor in Council, on the report and recommendation of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice dated July 3, 2023, and pursuant to Sections 3 and 4 of

Chapter 252 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Legal Aid Act , is pleased to: (

a) reappoint Jennifer Knebel Reid of Halifax Regional Municipality (Prospect) as a part-time director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing August 3, 2023; (

b) reappoint Oliver Janson of Digby, Digby County, as a part-time director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing August 3, 2023; (

c) appoint Alexander MacKillop of Halifax Regional Municipality (Halifax) as a part-time director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three (3) years commencing August 3, 2023; (

d) order that Jennifer Knebel Reid, Oliver Janson and Alexander MacKillop be remunerated for their service in the amount of $150.00 for each day of meetings of the Commission or a committee of the Commission, to a maximum of $600.00 for each fiscal year and be reimbursed reasonable expenses incurred in fulfilling their duties as directors of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission, provided such reimbursements do not exceed those normally payable to members of the civil service; and (

e) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate, or settle claims or charges made against Jennifer Knebel Reid, Oliver Janson or Alexander MacKillop and indemnify them from personal liability, provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of their activities in relation to their appointment and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends, the Province will be in control of the case.
