OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the President of the Executive Council dated January 19, 2005, and pursuant to Sections 4B and 4C of
Chapter 376 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Public Service Act, and all other authority in him vested, is pleased to, effective January 26, 2005: (
a) create an office of the public service and prescribe the name of the office to be the Office of Immigration; (
b) direct that the Office of Immigration be presided over by the Minister responsible for the Office of Immigration and who may be described as the Minister of Immigration; (
c) direct that all affairs and matters relating to immigration which have heretofore been assigned by or under the Public Service Act or by or under any other Act of the Legislature to the Departments of Education and Economic Development or the Ministers of Education or Economic Development, including but without limiting the generality of the foregoing the attraction, integration and retention of immigrants, are assigned to the Office of Immigration or the Minister of Immigration, as the case may be; (
d) direct that a reference in any Act of the Legislature or in any rule, order, regulation, by-law or ordinance or in any document whatsoever to the Departments of Education or Economic Development or the Ministers of Education or Economic Development, whether the reference is by official name or otherwise, as regards to any subsequent transaction, matter or thing relating to the affairs or matters or any of them assigned aforesaid to the Office of Immigration or the Minister of Immigration be held and construed to be a reference to the Office of Immigration or the Minister of Immigration, as the case may be; (
e) appoint the Honourable Rodney J. MacDonald as the Minister of Immigration; (
f) appoint Robert Fowler as the Chief Executive Officer of the Office of Immigration who may be referred to as the Deputy Minister of Immigration; and (
g) direct that such other officers and employees as are required for the purpose of the Office may be appointed pursuant to the Civil Service Act and that Act applies to those employees.
