1979 BILL First Session, 19th Legislature, 28 Elizabeth II THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF ALBERTA BILL THE ALBERTA GOVERNMENT TELEPHONES AMENDMENT ACT, 1979 THE MINISTER OF UTILITIES AND TELEPHONES First Reading Second Reading Committee of the Whole Third Reading Royal Assent Printed by the Queen`s Printer for the Province of Alberta, EDMONTON Title: 1979 (19th, 1st) Bill 8, The Alberta Government Telephones Amendment Act, 1979 Bill BILL THE ALBERTA GOVERNMENT TELEPHONES AMENDMENT ACT, 1979 (Assented to , 1979) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1 The Alberta Government Telephones Act is amended by this Act. 2

Section 2(

b) is repealed and the following is substituted: (b) “Minister” means the Associate Minister of Telephones; 3

Section is amended by striking out “Minister of Utilities and” and substituting “Associate Minister of” 4 Section 4(1) is amended by adding “the Minister of Utilities and Telephones,” after “Minister,”. 5

Section is amended (

a) by repealing subsection (1) and substituting the following: 7(1) The Minister shall be chairman of the commis sion and the Minister of Utilities and Telephones shall be vice-chairman of the commission. (

b) by repealing subsection (4) and substituting the following:

(4) The vice-chairman shall act as chairman of the commission in the event of the absence or inability to act of the chairman or if there is a vacancy in the office of the chairman. 6 This Act comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to. 1 Explanatory Notes This Bill will amend

chapter of the Revised Statutes of Alberta 1970. 2

Section presently reads in part: 2 In this Act, (b) "Minister" means the Minister of Utilities and Telephones; 3

Section presently reads: 3 The member of the Executive Council of Alberta who is appointed for the time being by the Lieutenant Governor under the Great Seal of the Province as the Minister of Utilities and Telephones is charged with the administration of this Act. 4 This amendment provides that both the Minister of Utilities and Telephones and the Associate Minister of Telephones are members of The Alberta Government Telephones Commission. 5

Section presently reads in part: 7(1) The Minister shall be chairman of the commission.

(4) The Minister may appoint any member of the commission to be the acting chairman in the absence of the Minister or in the case of the Minister’s inability to act. 1 Title: 1979 (19th, 1st) Bill 8, The Alberta Government Telephones Amendment Act, 1979
