Explanatory Note 2. The residence qualification for a widow's pension is reduced from fifteen to ten years.

Section 3 presently reads: "3. The Minister may provide for the payment of a pension not exceeding the sum of fifty-five dollars a month to a widow (

a) wbo at the date of the proposed commencement of payments to her (

i) has attained the age of sixty years but not yet reached the age of sixty-five years, (ii) has resided in Canada or Newfoundland for the fifteen years immediately preceding the date she attained the age of sixty years and has continued to so reside since that time, or if she has not so resided for fifteen years has been present in Canada or Newfoundland prior to those fifteen years for an aggregate period equal to twice the aggregate period of absences from Canada or Newfoundland during those fifteen years, (iii) has resided in the Province for a greater portion of three years immediately preceding that date, and (Iv) is not, for the purposes of health and welfare services, the responsibility of the Government of Canada, and (

b) wbo is not in receipt of an allowance or pension under

(1) The Blind Persons Act, (

U) The Disabled Persons' Pensions Act, (iii) The Disabled Persons Act, or (Iv) The Mothers' Allowance Act,".

BILL No. 48 of 1960

An Act to amend The Widows' Pensions Act (Assented to , 1960) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. The Widows' Pensions Act, being

chapter 368 of the Revised Statutes is hereby amended.

Section 3, clause (

a) is amended as to subclause (ii) by striking out the word "fifteen" wherever it occurs in the subclause and by substituting the word "ten". 3. This Act comes into force on the day upon whieh it is assented to, and upon so coming into force shall be deemed to have been in force on and after the first day of January, 1960.
