312 Wednesday, October 25, 2023 The House met at 10 a.m. GOVERNMENT BUSINESS Pursuant to notice and on motion, debate commenced and concluded on the motion standing in the name of the Government House Leader (J. Hogan) as follows: THAT in accordance with Standing Order 65, the Public Accounts Committee shall comprise the following Members: Member for Harbour Main (H. Conway Ottenheimer) Member for Placentia - St. Mary's (S. Gambin-Walsh) Member for Baie Verte - Green Bay (B. Warr) Member for Exploits (P. Forsey) Member for Labrador West (J. Brown) Member for Lake Melville (P. Trimper) Member for St.

George's - Humber (S. Reid) The Speaker (D. Bennett) put the question and declared the motion carried. Pursuant to order and on motion, the House resolved itself into a Committee of the Whole to consider a bill entitled “An Act to Amend the Schools Act, 1997 No. 2” (Bill 43). The Speaker left the Chair. The Deputy Speaker (B. Warr) took the Chair of Committee of the Whole. On motion, the Committee rose. The Speaker resumed the Chair. The Chair (B.

Warr) reported the Committee of the Whole had considered the matters to them referred and had directed them to report the Committee had recommended, without amendment, a bill entitled: “An Act to Amend the Schools Act, 1997 No. 2” (Bill 43). The Speaker put the question and it was ordered the report be received and adopted. On motion, it was ordered that Bill 43 be read the third time on tomorrow.

Petten) recognizing the winners of the 2023 Bright Business Achievement Award. The Member for Exploits (P. Forsey ) recognizing the organizers of the Leo Brothers Memorial Softball Tournament Classic. The Member for Ferryland (L. O’Driscoll) congratulating and recognizing the cast, crew and staff of the Southern Shore Folk Arts Council on their 2023 dinner theatre performances.

The Member for Grand Falls -Windsor - Buchans (Chris Tibbs) recognizing Paul Clancy and New Found Tao Brazilian Jujitsu. The Member for Harbour Main (Helen Conway Ottenheimer) recognizing Lindsay Phillips Oates of Avondale, owner of Central Wellness in Holyrood. Ministerial Statements The following Ministers provided statements: The Minister of Immigration, Population Growth and Skills (G. Byrne) recognizing the growing population and diversity in the province. The Members for Cape St. Francis (J. Wall ) and Labrador West (J. Brown ) responded to the statement.

The Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure (J. Abbott) replied to the petition. The Member for Torngat Mountains (L. Evans) regarding NLHC housing in Coastal Labrador. The Minister of Children, Seniors and Social Development (P. Pike) replied to the petition. The Member for Exploits (P. Forsey) regarding the need to remove the 800-metre restriction on big game and salmon angling disability licenses. The Member for Labrador West (J.

Brown) regarding the need to enact legislation banning the use of temporary replacement workers during a strike or lockout. The Minister Responsible for Labour (B. Davis) replied to the petition. ORDERS OF THE DAY Pursuant to order and on motion, debate commenced and concluded on second reading of a bill entitled “An Act to Amend the Buildings Accessibility Act” (Bill 52). Pursuant to order and on mo tion, a bill entitled “An Act to Amend the Buildings Accessibility Act” (Bill 52) was read the second time and, on motion, it was ordered that Bill 52 be referred to a Committee of the Whole on tomorrow.

Hogan) as follows: THAT this House concur in the second report of the Standing Orders Committee of the 50th General Assembly tabled October 24, 2023. The Speaker put the question and declared the motion carried.
