An Act to amend The Mental Defectives Act. (Assented to , U)23.) HIS MAJESTY, by' and with the advice and consent of the Le!!;islative Assembly of the Province of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1. This Act may be cited as "The Mental Defectives Act A mendment Act, 1923." 2.

Section of The M ental Defectives A et, being

chapter of the Revised Statutes of Alberta, 1922, is amended by adding as paragraph (

e) thereof the following: " (c) 'Superintendent' shall mean the Medical Super intendent of the Provincial Training School for Mental Deficiency." , I 3.

Section of the said Act is hereby repealed, and the following substituted therefor: "3. The Provincial Training School for Mental Deficiency established at Oliver, Alberta, shall be for the public use of the Province as an institution for the detention, care and training of mentally defective persons." 4.

Section of the said Act is hereby repealed, and the following substituted therefor: "5. Any person who desires to have any mentally defective perRon Ulider his charge or control placed in an institution established for the purpose under this Act,' shall nnke application to the Superintendent, whereupon, if after due in\'eRtigation and on receipt of the pref;lcribed forms properly completed, the application is approved by the Superintendent, he may admit such person to the said institution." ;j.

Section 1:1 of the said Act is amended by adding as subsections (2) and (3) thereof the following: "(2) ,\ mentally defective person placed in an institution. ullder this Act. otherwise than by order of the Minister after an inquiry by a justice of the peace, may be removed therefrolll by his parent or guardian on giving one month's notice ill writillg to the Superintendollt, unlest' Lhe ~lIper intendent determines on due inquiry being made that it is to the interest of the mentally defective person, 01' that it is in the interest of the public, that he remain in the institution. "

(3) Any mentally defective person committed by order of the Minister after an inquiry by a ju:-:tiee of the poaee under this: Act to an institution, shall not be removed therefrom except by order of the Minister." 6.

Section of the said Act is amended by adding after the words "maintenance of ton dollars" whore t.hey occur therein, the \yords "or such cha:ge as may be fixed hom time to time by the Minister." 7.

Section of the said Act is hereby repealed. S.

Section of the said Act is amended by adding thereto as subsection (3) thereof the following: "

(3) The Minister may from time to time amend, or substitute another form for, any of the forms contained in the
