An Act to Incorporate the Stettler Light HQrse Association (Assented to , 1963) WHEREA,S a petition has been presented f.or the in (corpo~ation of the Stettler Lighlt Hovs·e Atssociation and it is expedient to grant the prayer of the sa.id petition: THERE;FORE, Her Majesty, by and with the 'advice and consent of the Legi.tiv~ 4~Mllbly of the PrQvince 'Of Alberta, enacts as folWws·: l. 'This Act may beeited as "'The Stettler Ught Horse Association Act". 2.

Elwood Smith, Willard Gilbert, Gordon Sorge, Ral'ph Innocent, Tim Adams, Elmer Haney, Orville Strandquist and Leonard Watson, all 'Of Stettler, in the Pr'Ovince 'Of Alberta, together with such persons as may hereafter be come members of the Association, are hereby constituted a body corporate under the name and style of Stettler Light H'Orse A'ss'ociation, hereinafter referred to as "the A·s sociation" . 3. The head 'Office of the Association shall be jJl the Town of Stettler, in the~ Proviil-ceo:(Afberta::-- 4. The Association shall have power: {

a) toO encour-age, spo-ns'Or, :hold and promo-te in the T'Own of Stettler and elsewhere in the Province of Alberta all lawful games, sports and pastimes, and track and field meets, and harness trotting, pacing and other horse races, and other exhibitions, con tests and exercises 'Of all kinds, and f'Or aU the said purposes to offer and grant, or contribute t'Oward the provisi'On of prizes, awards and distinctions; (

b) to prom'Ote and improve the breeding of thorough hred, standard and other racing ho~ses in the Pr''Ovince 'Of Alberta; (

c) to provide all necessary equipment for the carry ing out .of the objects of the Ass'Ociation; (

d) to operate a pari-mutuel hetting system during any horse race meeting conducted by the Ass'Ociation in accordance with the Criminal Code of Canada; (

(1) The provisions of

S~~i~~~ Aot (2) ftte ppovisi(hi§ of seeti6rts 2, 13, 16, 21 and ~5t6 31 of The Societies Act, apply to the Association to the sattie extent as though, and to the intent, and purpose that, the Association were a society incorporated under The Societies Act. Liability of member Additional powers 7. No member of the Association shall in his individual ca'pacity be liaJble for any debt or liability of the Association. 8. The Association in addition to all other powers shall have power (

a) to borrow or raise or secure the pa~ent of money !by negotiaJble ins,truments and by the issue of de 'bentures, or debenture stock, bonds, mortgages or obligations, charged upon the p'roperty of the As sociation and to extend the period for payment of the same, and to purchase, redeem or payoff any such securities in whole or in part, (

b) to invest its funds or any portion thereof, either directly in the name of the Association, or indirectly in the name of trustees, in the purpose of such securities as it may deem advisable, and to lend its funds or any portion thereof on any such secu~ities, and

c) to mortgage or charge all 'Or any part of the prop erty of the Association either for the payment or security for a debt or otherwise. 9. The Association may apply any part of its receipts or revenues :by way of prizes to contestants or competitors at any meeting or exerdse held by the Association or iby way of premiums to the breeders or owners or exhibitors of anima'ls exhibiting or eontesting therelat. 10. The Association may preserve order upon and in the vicinity of its grounds and for that purpose may employ special constables. 11.

Subject to the by-laws of the Association, for the purpose of carrying out any or all of its objects the Associa tion may draw, make, accept, endorse, discount, execute and issue promissory notes, bills of exchange and other negotiable instruments. 12.

(1) The persons named herein shall :be the first members and the provisional directors of the Association ,and may provide for ,the 'consiJitution of Ithe Association and the admis'sion of members thereto in the form of by-laws which shaH become effective upon the filing of the same wi th !the Regisitrar of J()int Stock Companies.

(2) Any such by-laws, not being inconsistent with :the law or this Act, shalll be binding upon the A'ssociation and upon i'ts members. ~:If~~Crct 13. This Ac:tcomes into force on the day upon which it is assenlted to.
