OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General dated November 12, 2002, and pursuant to Sections 3 and 4 of
Chapter 252 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Legal Aid Act, is pleased to: (
a) reappoint the following persons as directors of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission each for a term of office of three years commencing December 6, 2002: \x09 David F. Curtis, Q.C., of Truro, Colchester County; \x09 Kevin Coady of Halifax, Halifax Regional Municipality; \x09 Christopher Manning of Kentville, Kings County; (
b) appoint Frank DeMont of New Glasgow, Pictou County, as a director of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission for a term of three years commencing December 6, 2002; (
c) provide that the remuneration of David F. Curtis, Q.C., Kevin Coady, Christopher Manning and Frank DeMont as directors shall be at the rate of $150 for each day of meetings of the Commission or a committee of it, to a maximum of $600 for each fiscal year; (
d) direct that the reasonable travelling and living expenses incurred by David F. Curtis, Q.C., Kevin Coady, Christopher Manning and Frank DeMont in performing their duties associated with the Legal Aid Commission be paid in accordance with the established guidelines approved for Civil Servants; and (
e) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against David F. Curtis, Q.C., Kevin Coady, Christopher Manning and Frank DeMont and indemnify them from personal liability, provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of their activities in relation to their appointment and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends them, the Province will be in control of the case.
