NOTE

The

Bill amends the Legislative Assembly Act to require

persons elected members of the Assembly to take an oath or affirmation of

office.

Act to amend the Legislative Assembly Act

His

Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the

Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

The Legislative Assembly Act is amended by adding

the following section:

Oath

or affirmation of office

24.1

(1) Every person

who is elected a member of the Assembly shall, before sitting and voting in the

Assembly for the first time after that election, take and subscribe before the

the powers and duties conferred on me as Member of Provincial Parliament for (insert name of riding) in the Province of Ontario.

manner.

will act with fairness and integrity at all times.

Entitlement

member is not entitled to take their seat unless the member complies with

subsection (1).

Application

(3) Subsection

(1) applies to a member who is elected on or after the polling day of the next

general election that is held after the day this

section comes into force.

Commencement

This Act comes into force on the day it receives Royal Assent.
