Contract: Slide Repairs on Highway 691 adjacent to the West-bound Lanes and

Highway 35 adjacent to the North-bound Lanes within the Town of Manning.

(Contract No. CON0022057)

Contractor: Martushev Logging Ltd.

Reason for Increase: This contract pertains to highway embankment slide repairs

along Highway 691 and Highway 35 within the Town of Manning. The cost increase

was a result of design modifications to address deeper than anticipated slide plane and

ground conditions at the Highway 691 site.

Contract Amount: $1,126,594.25

% Increase: 28.1%

Amount of Increase: $316,431.16

Contract: Chip Seal Coat on Highways 36 and 641. (Contract No. CON0020806

Contractor: West-Can Seal Coating Inc.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for a chip seal coat on highways 36 (35.6 km -

north of junction of Highway 9 to south of junction of Highway 12) and 641 (23.1 km

- junction of Highway 897 to Saskatchewan border). The cost increase was a result of

the progressing of pavement cracks, requiring repair before chip sealing, exceeding

what was anticipated between the time of design and time of construction.

Contract: Slope Stabilization along the East-bound Lanes of Highway 11 along

Contractor: PME Inc.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for the stabilization of the slopes of the

highway embankment along a

section of Highway 11 along Abraham Lake. The cost

increase was a result of the extent of the slide extending between the time of design

and time of construction.

Contract: Grade Widening, Storm Sewer, Storm Water Management Facilities,

628 to 47th Ave. in the Town of Stony Plain. (Contract No. CON0010642)

Contractor: Wells Construction, a Division of LaFarge Canada Inc.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for re-construction of Highway 779 from south

of Highway 628 to 47th Avenue in the Town of Stony Plain. The cost increase was a

result of unforeseen ground conditions underneath the portion of the existing

pavement that was being re-constructed, unforeseen utility adjustments and surface

treatment of the remaining existing pavement due to unanticipated deterioration.

Contract Amount: $14,166,601.60

% Increase: 32.4%

Amount of Increase: $4,589,892.96

Contract: Bridge Rehabilitation of grade separation carrying Highway 563 over

Highway 1, 2 kilometres west of Calgary. (Contract No. CON0017048)

Contractor: Carmacks Enterprises Ltd.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for rehabilitation of the bridge carrying

Highway 563 over Highway 1 west of Calgary. The cost increase was a result of

repairs to girder corrosion that was discovered during construction; as well, the base

material for the median rail was upgraded to meet current standards.

Contract Amount: $2,368,390.00

% Increase: 38.9%

Amount of Increase: $922,332.92

Contract: Bridge Culvert Replacement on Highway 33 (Contract No. CON0018143)

Contractor: In-Line Contracting Partnership

Reason for Increase: This contract is for the replacement of a bridge culvert carrying

Highway 33 over a watercourse 10 kilometres north of Swan Hills by trenchless

excavation. The cost increase was a result of unforeseen ground conditions

necessitating a design change of the channel alignment into the culvert.

Contract Amount: $609,050.00

Contract: Bridge Stripdeck Replacement, Sandblasting and Painting Shaftesbury

Ferry (Contract No. CON0019344)

Contractor: Checkmark Services Ltd.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for stripdeck replacement, sandblasting and

painting of the Shaftesbury Ferry carrying Highway 740 across the Peace River south

of Grimshaw. The cost increase was a result of deterioration on sections of steel that

was discovered during construction necessitating either repair or replacement of the

steel sections; as well, these sections and other areas that were not visible for

inspection during design required painting.

Contract Amount: $804,435.00

% Increase: 34.9%

Contract: Pumping, Maintaining Riparian Flows During Low Level Outlet Shutdown

at the St. Mary Dam. (Contract No. CON0019651)

Contractor: Canada Pump & Power Corporation

Reason for Increase: This contract is for an outlet valve replacement at the St. Mary

Dam. The cost increase was a result of the prolongation of another contract in co-

ordination with this one necessitating the need for additional pumping for river flow

control, construction of an access road for the equipment launch as reservoir levels

were lower than anticipated, and additional operational costs as a result of ice

conditions in the reservoir.

Contract Amount: $415,915.18

% Increase: 180.1%

Amount of Increase: $749,232.65

Contract: High Load Damage Repairs carrying Highway 616 over Highway 2, 8

kilometres west of Millet. (Contract No. CON0020193)

Contractor: Horseshoe Hill Construction Inc.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for high load damage repairs to Bridge File

75667. The cost increase was a result of extra work and bid quantity overrun for the

repair works. As well, there was a payment earned by the contractor for minimizing

project duration and traffic disruption.

Contract: Slide Repair at Spray Lakes Gabion Wall Repair (Contract No.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for slide repair work at the Spray Lakes Road.

The cost increase was due to considerable additional quantity of bid items to fix the

erosion and slumping of the gabion wall, and additional work of providing fence for

the safety of the traveling public.

Contract: Design, Fabricate, Install and Remove Underwater Isolation Barrier at St.

Mary Dam northwest of the Hamlet of Spring Coulee (Contract No. CON0019211)

Contractor: Hibbard Inshore, LLC.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for design, fabricate and install an underwater

isolation barrier at the upstream of the low level outlet (LLO) in order to replace the

leaking valve at the outlet. The cost increase was primarily a result of additional work

carried out due to site condition changes: trashrack modifications work, dredging to

remove excess silt in the LLO, constructing an access road and other work.

Contract Amount: $2,567,327.00

Contract: Steel Girder Bridge Repairs and Other Works - North Saskatchewan River

Bridge on Highway 881, 10 kilometres north of Myrnam (Contract No.

Contractor: Ardy Rigging Ltd.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for the bridge girder repairs. The increase in

cost was primarily due to additional access for heating and hoarding of the repairs,

and repairs required for removal of top horizontal diaphragm members.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for repairs to canal banks at Reaches 4, 5, 6

and 7. The increase in cost was primarily due to extra work required to repair a new

30 metre-long bank failure, and bid item quantity overruns for the canal bank repairs.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for the high load damage repairs to the grade

separation structure over Highway 16. The cost increase was due to significant

additional concrete repairs to roof slab of the bridge approaches. The deficiencies

were identified during the repairs to the bridge girders.

Contract Amount: $953,500.00

% Increase: 53.2%

Contract: Cold Milling, Asphalt Concrete Pavement, Sand Seal Surface Treatment

and Other work on Highway 27 from east of the Junction of Highway 805 to west of

the Junction of Highway 21. (Contract No. CON0018123)

Contractor: Aecon Transportation West Ltd.

Reason for Increase: This contract is for cold milling of existing pavement and

asphalt concrete pavement and other related work. The increase in cost was primarily

due to extra work related to removal and replacement of rumble strips, line repainting,

and quantity over run due to additional milling and installing asphalt pavement to

widen the lane width.

Contract Amount: $1,620,220.00

% Increase: 14.2%

Contract: Street Light Installation and Other Work - 15 intersections along

Highways 16, 18, 33 and In-fill lighting on Highway 18 (Contract No. CON0018112)

Contractor: Black & McDonald Limited

Reason for Increase: This contract is for installation of highway lighting on highway

intersections in the North Central Region. The increase in cost was a result of extra

work related to additional drilling quantities and hydrovac charges. As well, there was

a payment earned by the contractor for minimizing project duration and traffic

disruption.

Contract Amount: $641,638.69

% Increase: 16.9%

Contract: Erosion Repair, Wetland Remediation and Other Work - Environmental

Compensation along Highway 63:02 to Highway 63:06 (Contract No. CON0018366)

Contractor: CLH Contracting Ltd.

Reason for Increase: This contract pertains to erosion repairs and wetland

remediation along Highway 63:02 to Highway 63:04. The increase in cost was a

result of additional work which includes application of hydromulch, removal of

material from a bridge site requested by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans,

removal of accumulated silt at the bottom of a drainage channel. Also there were

quantity overrun of some bid items of the contract.

Contract Amount: $532,783.30

% Increase: 18.8%

Amount of Increase: $100,332.70

Contract: Slope Stabilization and Other Work on Highway 40 - Two Slides at 1.6

kilometres and 2.0 kilometres north of Kakwa River. (Contract No. CON0018263)

Contractor: PME Inc.

Reason for Increase: This contract pertains to slope stabilization and other work

along Highway 40:30. The cost increase was for additional quantities such as

perforated pipe, granular pit-run, erosion covering, slope texturing, topsoil and

seeding. Excavation and installation of additional length of culvert

section as well as

reworking and shaping of the west bank of the drainage swale due to soft ground

conditions completed as extra work. Fixing of sunken asphalt surface on either side of

the repair was also added to this contract as extra work.

Contract Amount: $1,462,266.75

% Increase: 14.1%

Amount of Increase: $206,043.70

Contract: Crack Repair, Crack Sealing, Chip Seal Coat, Graded Aggregate Seal Coat

and Fog Coat Application on various highways throughout the North Central Region.

Contractor: West-can Seal Coating Inc.

Reason for Increase: This contract pertains to seal coating and underlying crack

repairs on Highways 36, 55, 63, 646, 660 and 866. The cost increase was a result of

unanticipated pavement deterioration between the time of design and the time of

construction requiring additional crack repair.

Contract Amount: $5,022,675.10

% Increase: 16.5%

Amount of Increase: $811,599.78

Contract: Grade Repair and Slide Repair on Highway 585, 15 kilometres east of

Trochu. (CON0021408)

Contractor: PME Inc.

Reason for Increase: This contract pertains to a highway embankment and slide

repair on Highway 585, 15 kilometres east of Trochu. The cost increase was a result

of site conditions differing from what was anticipated requiring additional quantities

of work for disposal of existing pavement materials and for the materials replacing

the disposed materials.

Contract Amount: $1,585,985.95

NOTICE TO ADVERTISERS

The Alberta Gazette is issued twice monthly, on the 15th and last day.

Notices and advertisements must be received ten full working days before the

date of the issue in which the notices are to appear. Submissions received after

that date will appear in the next regular issue.

Notices and advertisements should be typed or written legibly and on a sheet separate

from the covering letter. An electronic submission by email or disk is preferred.

Email submissions may be sent to the Editor of The Alberta Gazette at

albertagazette@gov.ab.ca. The number of insertions required should be specified and

the names of all signing officers typed or printed. Please include name and complete

contact information of the individual submitting the notice or advertisement.

Proof of Publication: Statutory Declaration is available upon request.

A copy of the page containing the notice or advertisement will be emailed to each

advertiser without charge.
