Alberta — Bills

Bill No. 39 of 1951. A BILL TO AMEND THE INDUSTRIAL WAGES SECURITY ACT. NOTE. This Bill anlends The indu,st'l'i(d l'Vages Security Act, being

chapter of the Reyised Statutes of Alberta,

Section 2, clause (

c) which defines the term "lumbering" is amended by striking out references to box factories and wood working plants. This amendment has the effect of exempting box factories and wood working plants such as sash and door factories and prefabrication yards from the application of this Act, and from the necessity of posting security for wages with the Department. Se<!tion is amended by the addition of a new subsection (3). Under the Act as it is at present the security for wages must be posted prior to the date of commencement of opera tions. The security required is approximately equal to one month's wages.

The smaller operators in the mining and lumbering industries have experienced some difficulty in producing the entire amount of the security before the commencement of their operations. The new subsection added enables the IVIinister, in a proper case, to authorize the payment of the amount of the security by instalments. The Bill comes into force on the 1st day of July, 1951. KENNETH A. McKENZIE, Legislative Cou'nsel. (This note does not form any part of the Bill but is offered in explanation of its provisions.) BILL No. 39 of 1951.
