OIC Text: The Governor in Council, on the report and recommendation of the Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Police Complaints Commissioner and Minister responsible for the Nova Scotia Police Review Board dated November 22, 2023, and pursuant to Sections 11 and 13 of

Chapter 31 of the Acts of 2004, the Police Act, is pleased, effective on and after December 1, 2023, to: (

a) reappoint Patrick Curran of Halifax Regional Municipality to the position of Nova Scotia Police Complaints Commissioner for a term of six months; (

b) order that Patrick Curran be remunerated for his services in the amount of $65 per hour and be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in fulfilling his duties as Police Complaints Commissioner provided that such reimbursement does not exceed that normally payable to members of the civil service; and (

c) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against Patrick Curran and indemnify him from personal liability provided that the Province is satisfied the claim arises out of his activities in relation to his appointment as Nova Scotia Police Complaints Commissioner and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends him, the Province will be in control of the case.
