Royal Canadian Mounted Police Auxiliary Regulations

made under

Section 25 of the

Emergency Management Act

S.N.S. 1990, c. 8

O.I.C. 74-696 (effective June 25, 1974), N.S. Reg. 133/1974

amended to O.I.C. 75-385 (effective April 8, 1975), N.S. Reg. 149/1975

1 In these regulations

(a) “Provincial Police Force” means the Royal Canadian Mounted Police while

carrying out duties under agreement entered into by the Governor in Council;

(b) “Senior Police Authority” means the Commanding Officer, “H” Division of

the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

2 A Provincial police auxiliary force to be known as the “Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Auxiliary” may be organized and operated under the direction and command of the

Senior Police Authority.

3 Incidental expenses incurred during training and uniform costs shall be paid by the

Director of Emergency Measures (Nova Scotia).

4 The strength of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Auxiliary shall not exceed the

number of uniformed Royal Canadian Mounted Police members in the Province.

5 The provisions of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act ,

Chapter R-9, of the Revised

Statutes of Canada, 1970, and amendments thereto, and the rules, regulations and orders

made pursuant thereto, shall apply mutatis mutandis to every member of the Royal

Canadian Mounted Police Auxiliary.

6 The procedures and standards for enlistment in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Auxiliary shall be as prescribed by the Senior Police Authority.

7 When a state of emergency exists, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Auxiliary shall

become part of the Nova Scotia Emergency Police Service pursuant to Regulations

Respecting Police Services made pursuant to the EMO (NS) Act which were approved by

Order in Council 69-426 dated the 6th day of May, 1969.

8 A Federal/Provincial Agreement for Workmen’s Compensation exists to cover all EMO

(NS) volunteer workers. To provide this coverage for the Royal Canadian Mounted

Police Auxiliary, all members will be enrolled as EMO (NS) volunteer workers.

9 While under the supervision of a regular member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police,

an auxiliary member will have the powers of a peace officer during in-service training and

when a state of emergency exists.

filed with the Registrar before March 31, 1978, are exempt from publication

under subsection 24(2) of the Regulations

Act .

The regulations referred to in s. 7 are repealed by

N.S. Reg 104/1994.

The title of the Act is changed from the Emergency Measures Act to the Emergency Management Act by amendments

made by S.N.S. 2005, c. 48 to the Emergency

Measures Act , S.N.S. 1990, c. 8, and the Public Service Act , R.S.N.S. 1989, c. 376. References to the Emergency Measures

Organization (EMO (NS)) should be read as references to the Emergency

Management Office established by these amendments.
