OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister of Justice and Attorney General dated September 25, 2007, and pursuant to
Section 3 of
Chapter 252 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Legal Aid Act, is pleased to: (
a) reappoint the following persons as directors of the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission, each for a term of office of three years commencing October 30, 2007: Vincent Bernard MacDonald of Halifax, Halifax Regional Municipality; and Shanta Dhir of Truro, Colchester County; (
b) provide that the remuneration of Vincent Bernard MacDonald and Shanta Dhir, as directors shall be at the rate of $150 for each day of meetings of the Commission or a committee of it, to a maximum of $600 for each fiscal year; (
c) direct that the reasonable travelling and living expenses incurred by Vincent Bernard MacDonald and Shanta Dhir, incurred by them in performing the duties associated with the Nova Scotia Legal Aid Commission be paid in accordance with the established guidelines approved for civil servants; and (
d) order that the Province shall defend, negotiate or settle claims or charges made against Vincent Bernard MacDonald and Shanta Dhir, and indemnify them from personal liability, provided that the Province is satisfied that the claim arises out of their activities in relation to their appointment and is not based on fraud or criminal activity and where the Province so defends them, the Province will be in control of the case.
