OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the Report and Recommendation of the Minister of Justice dated November 8, 2019, and pursuant to

Section 26C(1) of

Chapter 31 of the Acts of 2004, the Police Act , and

Section 45.79 of

Part VII.1 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act , R.S.C., 1985, C. R-10, is pleased, effective November 8, 2019, to: (

a) appoint former Chief Judge Patrick Curran as the interim Nova Scotia Civilian Director of the Serious Incident Response Team for a term of one year, to act any time within the one-year term that the Director is unable to act and no acting Director has been appointed; (

b) designate former Chief Judge Patrick Curran as the designated authority for the purposes of Parts VII.1 and VII.2 of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Act for a term of one year, to act any time within the one-year term that the Director is unable to act and no acting Director has been appointed; (

c) fix the salary of former Chief Judge Patrick Curran at $5,548.41 bi-weekly plus travel expenses, payable in accordance with the travel policies and guidelines of the Province of Nova Scotia; (

d) direct that former Chief Judge Patrick Curran receive 4% pay in lieu of vacation and such other benefit entitlements as former Chief Judge Patrick Curran would receive if former Chief Judge Patrick Curran were an employee for the purposes of the Nova Scotia Labour Standards Code ; (

e) direct that former Chief Judge Patrick Curran be indemnified and to extend to former Chief Judge Patrick Curran the same protection against liability from suits or claims brought against former Chief Judge Patrick Curran in respect of work performed on behalf of the Province as would be provided to a civil servant; and (

f) direct that former Chief Judge Patrick Curran is not, by this appointment or otherwise, a civil servant entitled to civil service benefits.
