OIC Text: The Governor in Council on the report and recommendation of the Minister of Education dated February 7, 2012, and pursuant to

Section 88 of

Chapter 1 of the Acts of 1995-96, the Education Act, is pleased to: (

a) approve the construction of a new South Queens Junior High School for the South Shore Regional School Board, scheduled for completion in September 2013 at a total cost not to exceed $15,180,000; (

b) approve the construction of the new West Highlands Elementary School for the Chignecto Central Regional School Board, scheduled for completion in September 2013, at a total cost not to exceed $11,090,000; (

c) authorize the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal to do whatever is necessary to acquire the land and buildings for the new school construction referred to in clauses (

a) and (b), in the name of Her Majesty the Queen in Right of the Province of Nova Scotia, and authorize the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal to tender for the necessary work to design and construct the buildings and acquire the equipment necessary for the schools as approved; (

d) authorize the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal to hold the buildings, equipment and land for the construction of the South Queens Junior High School and the West Highlands Elementary School in the name of Her Majesty the Queen in Right of the Province of Nova Scotia while the projects are in progress; (

e) upon completion of the construction of the South Queens Junior High School and the West Highlands Elementary School to the satisfaction of the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal and the Minister of Education, the buildings, equipment, and land for the school shall be conveyed by Her Majesty the Queen in Right of the Province of Nova Scotia, as represented by the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, in accordance with

Section 88(2) of the Act, to the school boards referred to in clauses (

a) and (b); (

f) authorize the Minister of Education and the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal to execute such instruments as may be necessary for the purpose of this Order and authorize both or either of them to enter into an agreement with the South Shore Regional School Board and the Chignecto Central Regional School Board as applicable to attain the purposes of this Order; and (

g) amend Order in Council 2003-286, dated June 27, 2003, as amended, by removing from

Schedule "M" Additions/Alterations to Existing Schools" the following:

i) the addition and alteration project in the amount of $5,300,000 approved for Liverpool Regional High, Southwest School Board, now known as South Shore Regional School Board; and ii) the addition and alteration project in the amount of $2,450,000 approved for West Highlands Elementary School, Chignecto Central Regional School Board.
