1 Bill 28 BILL 28 2024 MEAT INSPECTION AMENDMENT ACT, 2024 ( A s s e n t e d t o , 2 0 2 4 ) HIS MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: Amends RSA 2000 cM-9 1 The Meat Inspection Act is amended by this Act. 2

Section 10 is amended (

a) by renumbering it as

section 10(1); (

b) in subsection (1) by striking out “$10 000” and substituting “$100 000”; (

c) by adding the following after subsection (1):

(2) A prosecution for an offence under this Act may not be commenced more than 2 years after the date on which evidence of the offence first came to the attention of an inspector or a peace officer.

chapter M-9 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta 2000. 2

Section 10 presently reads: 10 A person who contravenes this Act or the regulations under this Act is guilty of an offence and liable to a fine of not more than $10 000 or to imprisonment for a term of not more than one year or to both fine and imprisonment.
