EXPLANATORY NOTE

This Bill would exclude the Deputy

Speaker from the definition of "minister" in

section 2 of the Members of the House of Assembly Pensions

Act, retroactive to the appointment of the Deputy Speaker.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and

House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

1. Paragraph 2(

e) of the Members of the House of Assembly Pensions Act is repealed and

the following substituted:

(e) "minister" means a person who holds

office as a minister of the Crown, and, for the purposes of this Act includes

the

(

i) Speaker of the House of Assembly, and

(ii) Leader of the Opposition in the House of

Assembly;
