EXPLANATORY NOTE

The Bill amends the City of Toronto Act, 1997 to increase the number of councillors elected for the ward of East York from two to three.

An Act to amend the City of Toronto Act, 1997

Her Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Ontario, enacts as follows:

1. (1) Clause 3 (1) (

b) of the City of Toronto Act, 1997 is repealed and the following substituted:

(b) 57 other members elected in accordance with subsection (1.1).

(2) Section 3 of the Act is amended by adding the following subsection:

(1.1) Two members of the council shall be elected for each ward, except that three members shall be elected for the ward of East York.

2. This Act comes into force on January 1, 1998.

3. The

short title of this Act is the City of Toronto Amendment Act, 1997 .
