EXPLANATORY NOTES

This Bill would amend the Consumer Protection and Business Practices

Act to add regulation-making authority respecting gift cards or gift certificates.

The Bill would also repeal the Consumer Reporting Agencies Regulations .

The Consumer Protection and Business

Practices Act repealed and replaced the Consumer

Reporting Agencies Act , and these regulations are no longer required.

Be it enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor and

House of Assembly in Legislative Session convened, as follows:

Section 106 of the Consumer Protection and Business Practices Act is amended by adding

immediately after paragraph (

h) the following:

(h.1) respecting gift cards or gift certificates,

including imposing restrictions on or prohibiting the expiration of gift cards

or gift certificates, and the fees which may be charged for them;

2. The Consumer

Reporting Agencies Regulations , Consolidated Newfoundland and Labrador

Regulation 774/96, are repealed.
