EXPLANATORY NOTE NOTE EXPLICATIVE This Bill amends The Vital Statistics Act. Le présent projet de loi modifie la

Loi sur les statistiques de l'état civil. The requirement that a person's name must consist only of the letters "a" to "z" and accents from the English or French languages is repealed. The limit of four names in a surname is continued. Dorénavant, le nom qu'une personne peut porter n'est plus limité aux seules lettres du français et de l'anglais; il demeure toutefois obligatoire que le nom de famille comporte au plus quatre noms. A person may be given a single name that is determined in accordance with their traditional culture. En outre, il est désormais permis de porter un nom unique déterminé selon sa culture traditionnelle.

a) at least one given name; and (

a) the person or persons registering the child's birth provide the director with the prescribed evidence, if any; and (

Section 48 is amended by adding the following after clause (g): (g.1) prescribing the evidence to be provided in respect of giving a child a single name; 3
