The Queen's Counsel Act is hereby amended. 2.

Section is struck out and the following is substituted therefor: 2. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may authorize the issue of letters patent under the Great Seal of the Province fIQr the appointment during pleasure of members of the Bar of Alberta as provincial <officers under the name of "Her Majesty's Counsel, learned in the law, for the Province of Alberta". 3. This Act comes into force on the day upon which it is assented to. Explanatory Notes I. This Bill will amend

chapter of the Revised Statutes of Alberta 1970. 2.

Section presently reads: 2. The Lieutenant Governor in Council may, by letters patent under the Great Seal of the Province, appoint from among the members of the Bar of Alberta, such persons as he deems right to be, during pleasure, pro,vincial officers under the name of "Her Majesty's Counsel, lea~ned in the law, for ,the Province of Alberta". The

section is rewritten to remove an ambiguity. The Lieutenant Governor in Council does not in fact issue the letters patent for the appointment of Queen's Counsel but rather authorizes the issue of the letters patent which in turn are executed by the Lieutenant Governor.
