EXPLANATORY NOTES

Clause 1 of the Bill would amend

section 43.5 of

the Labour Standards Act to extend the period of parental

leave, making the provision consistent with the extended parental

benefits available under the

Employment Insurance Act (Canada).

Clause 2 of the Bill is a commencement clause.

Lieutenant-Governor and House of Assembly in Legislative

Session convened, as follows:

1.Section 43.5 of the Labour Standards Act is

amended by deleting the number "12" and by substituting the number

"35".

Commencement

2.This Act shall come into force on December 31, 2000.
