Interpretation Act

OIC Text: The Governor in Council, on the report and recommendation of the Minister responsible for the Human Rights Act dated May 30, 2024, and pursuant to

Section 22 of

Chapter 214 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the Human Rights Act, and

Section 18 of

Chapter 235 of the Revised Statutes of Nova Scotia, 1989, the

Interpretation Act, hereby: (

a) revokes the appointment of Cheryl Knockwood of Cape Breton Regional Municipality (Sydney) as Commissioner and designated Chair of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission made by Order in Council 2022-206 dated July 29, 2022, effective June 18, 2024; (

b) designates Cynthia Dorrington of Halifax Regional Municipality (Halifax) as Chair of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission for the remainder of her term commencing June 18, 2024, and expiring July 28, 2025; and (

c) orders that Cynthia Dorrington be remunerated at the rate of $6,000.00 per year and $100.00 for each half day spent at duly called meetings of the Commission and be reimbursed for reasonable expenses incurred in fulfilling her duties as Commissioner and Chair of the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission provided such reimbursements do not exceed those normally paid to members of the civil service.
