SIGURDSON First Reading Second Reading Committee of the Whole Third Reading Royal Assent Title: 1992 (22nd, 4th) Bill 348, Employment Standards Code Amendment A ct, Bill Mr. Sigurdson BILL EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS CODE AMENDMENT ACT, 1993 (Assented to , 1993) HER MAJESTY, by and with the advice and consent of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta, enacts as follows: 1 The Labour Relations Code is amended by this Act. 2 The following is added after

section 1(a): (a.1) "dependent contractor" means a person, whether or not employed under a contract of employment and whether or not furnishing his own tools, vehicles, equipment, machinery, materials or any other thing, who performs work or services for another person for compensation or reward on such terms and conditions that he is in a position of economic dependence upon, and under an obligation to perform duties for, that person more closely resembling the relationship of an employee than that of an independent contractor; and by striking out clause (

c) and substituting: (c) "employee" means any person employed to do work who is in receipt of or entitled to wages or other remuneration and includes a dependent contractor and includes a former employee; Explanatory Notes This Bill will amend

Chapter E-10.2 of the Revised Statutes of Alberta. 2 Section 1(1)(
