EXPLANATORY NOTE NOTE EXPLICATIVE This Bill amends The Medical Act to provide for the regulation of physician assistants. Le présent projet de loi modifie la Loi médicale afin de régir les auxiliaires médicaux. The Bill also establishes an educational register t o more clearly provide for the regulation of residents and medical students, and to provide for the regulation of physician assistant students. De plus, il établit un registre des étudiants afin de régir de manière plus claire que la Loi ne le fait actuellement les résidents ainsi que les étudiants en médecine e t de régir les étudiants qui suivent une formation d'auxiliaires médicaux.

Section 1 is amended in the definition "associate member" by striking out " clinical assistant register referred to in clause 6(1)(b) " and substituting "educational register, clinical assistant register o r physician assistant register ". 2

La définition de « membre associé » figurant à l'article 1 est modifiée par substitutio n, à « au registre des assistants médicaux mentionné à l'alinéa 6(1)b) », de « au registre des étudiants, au registre des assistants médicaux ou au registre des auxiliaires médicaux ». 3(1) Clause 6(1)(

b) is replaced with the following: (

b) the educational register, on which shall be registered the names of the individuals registered under subsection 11(1); (b.1) the clinical assistant register, on which shall be registered the names of the individuals registered under subsection 11(2); (b.2) the physician assistant register, on which sha ll be registered the names of the individuals registered under subsection 11(2.1); 3(1) L'alinéa 6(1)

a) by replacing the

section heading with "Educational register "; (

b) in the French version, by replacing clause (

a) with the following:

d) in the part after clause (c), by striking out "Part 1 of the clinical assistant " and substituting " the educational ". 4(1) Le paragraphe 11(1) est modifié :

a) in the

section heading, by striking out " —

b) by repealing clause (a); and (

c) in the part after clause (b), by striking out "Part 2 of ". 4(2) Le paragraphe 11(2) est modifié :

c) par abrogation de l'alinéa a). 4(3) The following is added after subsection 11(2): 4(3) Il est ajouté, après le paragraphe 11(2), ce qui suit : Physician assistant register 11(2.1) Every individual who is a graduate of a physician assistant program approved by the council and meets any other requirements set out in the regulations is entitled, upon payment of the prescribe d fee and providing evidence satisfactory to the registra r of his or her eligibility for registration, to be r egistered on the physician assistant register.

3 4(4) Subsection 11(3) is amended by striking out "Part 1 or 2 of the clinical assistant register " and substituting " the educational register, the clinical assistant register or the physician assistant regis ter ". 4(4) Le paragraphe 11(3) est modifié par substitution, à « à la

a) by striking out " the clinical assistant register " and substituting " the educational register, the clinical assistant register, the physician assistan t register ". 5
